New Beads!

Apologies for the following pics - I took them out in the front of the store as I was putting them out, so the lighting is bad, and some are blurry because I didn't bother with the tripod - I had beads to stock! Plus, bead photography is tough - the colors won't cooperate, and sizes are difficult to gauge. But we have some GORGEOUS new beads in stock - these are just a few representative pics:

See what I mean about sizes being difficult to convey in pics?
The top photo shows just a few of the new bright, colorful 6-7mm freshwater pearls, and the bottom pic shows tiny 1mm "seed" pearls, which look huge in the photo!

While we have plenty of the colorful pearls, the strands you see of the seed pearls are all we have .... with wedding and prom season here, we have been getting lots of requests for these seed pearls, but they were a bit pricey at the show, so I only purchased a few. (So if you love that peacock blue color, there is just one strand!)

colorful howlite spacers

colorful howlite butterfly focals

sponge and bamboo coral

agate

agate cylinders - bold colors and patterns

more colorful agate

more agate - this colorful agate was the big thing at the bead show!

top: more agate; bottom: stunning kyanite

focals: gemstone, lampwork, and sea glass

crystal pave crosses; perfect for bracelets. 7 different colors

amber

top: huge amethyst rondelles; bottom: faceted ruby in zoisite

gemstone and wood skulls - variety of sizes and colors

more gemstone focals

This is just a small sample of all the new beads - come in and see all the beautiful new inventory! We also have new metal beads and findings!

Hope to see you soon!

Metal Workshop

Our Metalsmithing Workshop is almost here!

Saturday, May 18 - Sunday, May 19: METALSMITHING (COLD CONNECTIONS)

This is a terrific, intense 2-day workshop (9AM - 6PM both days) jam-packed with basic Cold Connections techniques, including cutting, sawing, annealing, etching, texturing, patination, and so much more. Students usually create anywhere from 6 to 12 pieces, depending on the size and complexity of the designs they choose. This is a very flexible class - no kits! Everyone makes whatever they choose, with lots of guidance, helpful tips, and hands-on instruction from the workshop leader. The fee for this 2 day workshop is $145 (nonrefundable registration deposit: $65), and includes handout materials, all supplies needed to learn the techniques and to make your pieces, as well as use of tools, etc. The only additional fees would be if you choose to use beads, crystals, etc from the shop as embellishment, or if you want bails, chain, earwires, or other materials to finish off your designs. If you have tools you wish to bring, or interesting found objects - feel free!

More information about this workshop can be found here.

For any interested students, we will be offering an optional 3rd day of Cold Connections instruction on Monday, May 20. This class is designated as an "independent design day," where students can bring together the techniques they learned the previous 2 days to design and fabricate a piece of their choosing, with help from the workshop leader as needed. (Many samples and pictures are available for inspiration.) Some more advanced techniques such as fold-forming will be taught/demonstrated, and students can also dig deeper into any previously-learned techniques according to their own lines of interest. This is a terrific opportunity to integrate your brand new metal fabrication skills!

The fee for this optional 3rd day is $65 ($35 non-refundable deposit required for registration). Class fee includes use of all tools, chemicals, etc - but does NOT include sheet metal or wire. These materials are available for purchase for students who don't have them, or you may bring your own (in the past, students have had plenty of copper left over from the preceding 2-day metal workshop).

Here are some pictures of projects created with Cold Connections techniques:

Space in this class is limited, due to the extensive classroom space needed for set-up of all the chemicals, tools, torches, etc.

Call the shop to register, OR come by and see examples of all these wonderful projects!

Hope to see you soon!

Masters is here again!

It's that time of year again: Masters' Week

YaYa Beads will be open all next week, although we will be making a slight concession because of Masters: we will be opening 15 minutes late (at 10:15 instead of 10:00) on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

This is NOT because of any traffic issues - it is because exit 199 at I-20 is closed for a few hours every morning to "alleviate traffic" - and since that is my preferred way to get to the shop, I'm just going to stay home for a few extra minutes those mornings. I know I could use Riverwatch, but since all the traffic is being funnelled that way because of the closure at Washington Rd., I'd rather just avoid it.

So - we'll be here all week - how about you?

The traffic really and truly is NOT bad on the Stevens Creek side of I-20 during Masters' Week - you can't even tell the golf folks are in town unless you cross under I-20 heading toward the course. So don't fear the roads and the traffic - we are in the clear where the shop is. If you are coming from the downtown area, obviously, you want to avoid Washington Road - just take Riverwatch to Fury's Ferry, turn Left at Fury's Ferry and go one block, then turn Left onto Washington Rd, and you'll be about a block and a half from the shop. Easy!

Coming from other directions - not a problem! Just use your regular route!.

Hope we'll see you next week - we'll be running some special sales all week; different items will be discounted every day. Just check our Facebook page daily for sales info.
Hope to see you soon!

bird's nest ring

This class will focus on the hidden beads ring (upper pic) - a ring which looks different depending on the size and shape of the bead you choose to wrap - what a perfect way to show off an art bead! This class builds on the skills learned in the basic pendant class, but beginners will have no problems mastering this technique.

Once all the students have finished their hidden bead ring, Daniel will teach a bonus class - the bird's nest ring (lower pic). This is fun, easy, and quick way to showcase a favorite bead, and a technique you'll enjoy recreating over and over - this ring makes a great gift, too!

Class fee: $45* plus supplies, $15 deposit required for registration. (*$10.00 discount on class fee IF all supplies for class are purchased at YaYa Beads on the day of class.)

Sunday, June 2, 1PM: Basic Cabochon Pendant

This is our most basic wire-wrapping class: lots of instruction in types of wire, various tools, plus students will learn to make a beautiful wrapped cabochon.

Class fee: $45* plus supplies, $15 deposit required for registration.(*$10.00 discount on class fee IF all supplies for class are purchased at YaYa Beads on the day of class.)

Sunday, June 23, 1PM: TBA Wire-wrapped Project

We'll be offering another Wire class on June 23 - we just haven't decided what it will be yet! If there's a particular project from amongst our current wire classes that you'd like to take, let us know - it could very well end up right here on the schedule!

And don't forget our big MetalSmithing Workshop Weekend, coming up May 18 - 20!

Hope to see you soon!
