Wire Wrapping in July

Sunday, July 17, 1PM: Wire-wrapping, Geometric Bracelet

Wire-wrapped Geometric Bracelet

This is a good beginner-level wire class, with a lot of instruction about wire types and basic wire-wrapping skills, plus you'll leave class with a beautiful bracelet!

Class fee: $45 plus supplies; $25 deposit required for registration.

Just a reminder about our wire classes: Daniel travels a long way to teach these classes, so a minimum of 2 students must register for any class in order to justify Daniel's travel time and expenses. In the event that we fail to have enough students register for a particular class, any registration fees collected for that class will be refunded in full.

Also, Daniel offers private classes here at YaYa Beads, for those who want a little more individual attention and don't want to worry about whether enough students will sign up for our group classes. These private classes cost $90 (supplies are extra), and must be paid IN FULL at the time of registration. The student determines which projects will be taught. Depending of the projects chosen, Daniel covers anywhere from 2 to 4 projects in this class (the student will leave the session with a finished project for each lesson). The number of projects varies because some pieces are quicker than others, so more projects can be mastered during class time. Private classes are offered on Sundays (sometimes on Saturdays, depending on Daniel's availability), usually from 10AM to 5PM.

We appreciate your business, and hope to see you soon!

Summer classes are here!

We have added some new classes to the roster, and brought back some old favorites - expand your skill set, or learn something new!

Tuesday, August 6, 1PM: Beaded Beads

We have taught this beadweaving class before, and it is always a lot of fun - this is NOT the beaded bead you've seen in magazines, where you start with a wooden bead, and bead around it. This beaded bead is completely beadwoven from scratch, and while there are a huge number of different styles of beaded beads, only one will be taught per class, although Sonya will demonstrate and explain how changing your bead size and shape in the pattern will give the bead a whole new look!

All 3 of these beaded beads are the same pattern - simply changing your bead size or shape can dramatically change the overall look of the bead. These beads can easily be incorporated into various beading projects - I can already envision these earrings done in red and green - what cute Holiday earrings!

Class fee: $40 plus supplies ($10 discount on class fee if all supplies are purchased at YaYa Beads). $15 non-refundable deposit required for registration.

Sunday, August 18, 1PM: Woven Wire Bangle

This is a new pattern for us!

 woven wire bangle

Students will learn to braid/weave heavy gauge wire into this fun bangle. More complicated wrapping projects using this simple weave will also be demonstrated

Class fee $45 plus supplies; $15 non-refundable deposit required for registration.

We are experimenting with offering classes on different days; we'd love to hear from interested students about which days of the week are best for classes! We'd also love to hear what techniques you'd like to learn!

Stop by the shop to see our samples in person, or to learn more about these classes.

We hope to see you soon!

bird's nest ring

This class will focus on the hidden beads ring (upper pic) - a ring which looks different depending on the size and shape of the bead you choose to wrap - what a perfect way to show off an art bead! This class builds on the skills learned in the basic pendant class, but beginners will have no problems mastering this technique.

Once all the students have finished their hidden bead ring, Daniel will teach a bonus class - the bird's nest ring (lower pic). This is fun, easy, and quick way to showcase a favorite bead, and a technique you'll enjoy recreating over and over - this ring makes a great gift, too!

Class fee: $45* plus supplies, $15 deposit required for registration. (*$10.00 discount on class fee IF all supplies for class are purchased at YaYa Beads on the day of class.)

Sunday, June 2, 1PM: Basic Cabochon Pendant

This is our most basic wire-wrapping class: lots of instruction in types of wire, various tools, plus students will learn to make a beautiful wrapped cabochon.

Class fee: $45* plus supplies, $15 deposit required for registration.(*$10.00 discount on class fee IF all supplies for class are purchased at YaYa Beads on the day of class.)

Sunday, June 23, 1PM: TBA Wire-wrapped Project

We'll be offering another Wire class on June 23 - we just haven't decided what it will be yet! If there's a particular project from amongst our current wire classes that you'd like to take, let us know - it could very well end up right here on the schedule!

And don't forget our big MetalSmithing Workshop Weekend, coming up May 18 - 20!

Updated Class Schedule, & More

Here is the latest schedule for our upcoming specialty classes:

Resinate: Creating beautiful resin jewelry; Saturday, February 25, 12 noon

Thanks to the input of the wonderful students who took our inaugural resin class, the instructor has revised this course and can now accomplish the class goals in one day. Each student will learn how to create resin jewelry components from start to finish, and leave the class with (at least) 3 pendants. Resin pieces need to cure for 72 hours prior to finishing, so the clean-up and finishing techniques will be demonstrated in class, and students may then (carefully) take their pieces home to complete the process after they cure.

Class fee: $55 (includes all supplies); $25 deposit required for registration.

Wire-wrapped Teardrop cabochon earrings: Sunday, March 11, 1 PM:

This class build on the skills learned in the cabochon pendant class; this is technically a beginner-level class, and no prerequisite wire skills are required, but because the stones are much smaller than the pendant, some folks find this class a little more difficult when first starting out.

Class fee: $35 plus supplies; $15 deposit required for registration.

Wire-wrapped Beaded Bracelet: Sunday, April 22, 1 PM:

Select your favorite 3 to 4 mm beads to create this beaded bangle bracelet!

Class fee: $35 plus supplies; $15 deposit required for registration.

We have hundreds and hundreds of gorgeous new colors and shapes in Czech pressed glass and fire polish beads - come check them out!

And don't forget the big sale event this weekend!

And as always, our beadweaving, chainmaille, and basic beading classes are available for one-on-one scheduling to suit your schedule!

Hope to see you soon!

Updated class schedule - more Wire Classes! EDITED 7/21/11

Saturday Wire-Wrapping Classes have been a huge hit, so we are adding more to the schedule.

Here is the complete & up-to-date class schedule:

Wire-Wrapped Earrings: Sunday, August 7, 1PM - 5:30PM

Congratulations to Rita, the first customer to register for this class! She has chosen Daniel's earring class, and these are the 3 pairs of earrings we will be making during this class:

Lots of different wire technique going on here; you will leave class with 3 different projects, and lots of new skills!

Wire-Wrapped Square Knot Bracelet: Saturday, August 27, 1PM - 5:00PM

This is a good beginner level Wire Class, and makes a bracelet that is also popular with the guys. Please note that heavier gauge wire is used, so hand strength plays a role in your ability to complete the project. Fee: $35 plus supplies.

Wire-Wrapped Geometric Bracelet (with optional addition of beads): Saturday, September 17, 1PM - 5:00PM

This is another good beginner level Wire class, and this bracelet looks terrific when different metals are combined, too - like copper and silver, or silver and gold-filled. Addition of beads to your finished bracelet is optional (and not shown in the pic - sorry!) Fee: $35 plus supplies

Wire-Wrapped Darlin's Bracelet and Matching Ring: Sunday, September 25, 1PM - 6:00PM

Another beginner level Wire Class; 2 projects will be taught(the matching bracelet and ring) and instructions will be handed out for the matching earrings, which students will be able to complete on their own with the skills learned in this class.

Please note that these projects use heavier gauge wire, so hand strength will play a part in your ability to complete the projects.
Fee: $40 plus supplies

SUPER Cold Connections Extravaganza!: November 11, 12, 13, and 14; 9AM - 6PM

Read entire post to learn about discounted registration fees...

We are going to have a 4-day Cold Connections Blowout with Kathy Morris, who returns to YaYa Beads from the William Holland Lapidary School. The first 2 days will be the basic Cold Connections Workshop, and then the 3rd and 4th days will build on these skills. Students may take any or all of these classes - you do NOT have to sign up for all 4 days (but you'll be sorry if you don't!)

Basic Cold Connections on Friday & Saturday, November 11-12. This is a terrific, intense 2 day workshop on Cold Connections techniques, including cutting, sawing, annealing etching, texturing, and so much more. Students usually create anywhere from 5 to 12 pieces, depending on the size and complexity of the designs they choose. This is a very flexible class - no kits! Everyone makes whatever they choose, with lots of guidance and instruction from Kathy. The fee for this 2 day workshop is $130 (registration deposit: $65), and includes all supplies needed to learn the techniques and to make your pieces, as well as use of tools, etc. The only additional fees would be if you choose to use beads, crystals, etc from the shop as embellishment, or if you want bails, chain, earwires, or other materials to finish off your designs. If you have tools you wish to bring, or interesting found objects texturing implements - feel free!

On Sunday, November 13, Kathy will move on to enameling - this is a great addition to your cold connections skills, so prior cold connections experience IS a prerequisite, but you don't have to have taken it here! As long as you have taken it somewhere, you are welcome to learn how to enamel on copper in this class. Fee for this class is $55 (deposit: $35) and includes all materials except your metal. You may bring your own, pre-prepped copper pieces for enameling; you may bring your own sheet copper and prepare it during class, or we will have sheet copper available for purchase. The fee also includes all use of tools you may need although you may wish to bring your own tools, too.

This enameled copper bracelet and earring set was made in one of Kathy's prior one-day enameling workshops - and these weren't the only projects the student completed that day. If you work hard, this can be a very prolific class for you (especially if you prepare your copper pieces ahead of class!), as well as fun and educational.

On Monday, November 14, Kathy is again building on your cold connections skills, this time with a fairly new, exciting technique: alcohol ink. This is another wonderful way to add color to your cold connections designs, but with the torch/kiln required for enameling. Class fee: $55 (registration deposit: $35) includes all materials except your metal. You may bring your own, pre-prepped metal pieces (brass &/or copper); you may bring your own sheet copper &/or brass and prepare it during class, or we will have sheet copper/brass available for purchase. The fee also includes all use of tools you may need although you may wish to bring your own tools, too.

Prior cold connections experience is a prerequisite!

2 projects made with alcohol ink on metal

**Please note: Registration fees are discounted for students that sign up for 3 or more days of classes this weekend and pay entire registration fee in advance:

3-day packages:

  • 2 Day Cold Connections Workshop + Enameling: $175 ($10 savings)

  • 2 Day Cold Connections Workshop + Alcohol Ink on Metal: $175 ($10 savings)

All 4 days: Cold Connections + Enameling + Alcohol Ink on Metal: $225 ($15 saving)

Call the shop to register for classes, or come on by - we'd love to see you!

We still have a few tubes of the 3-cut (faceted) 6/0 seedbeads featured on page 40 of the June/July 2011 SuperBeadwork. In this magazine, these beads were used in a Kumihimo bracelet, but our customers have gone wild with these beads, and made some gorgeous necklaces, earrings, bracelets - and not just with Kumihimo. We have 6 colors of these beads available, including the color mix featured in SuperBeadwork.

We have received calls from all over the country about these beads, and while we don't sell on this website, if you call us with your credit card number, we will be happy to ship these beads to you.
