Last drawing for snowman earrings

No one has stepped forward to claim the Swarovski snowman earrings yet, so I have drawn one more ticket -

If you have the matching stub, come to the shop by 12 noon on Saturday, January 2, to claim your earrings.

If the earrings are still unclaimed at 12 noon on January 2, I will put out another post here, announcing how they will be given away.

Good luck, and happy holidays!

Upcoming events

We are in full holiday swing at YaYa Beads - we have lots of holiday items available for last minute purchases, and the 2009 class schedule has wound down.

Speciality classes will pick up again in January:

Wire-Wrapping:

On Sunday, January 24, (1PM) we will be offering a brand new Wire-Wrap Class here - the Beaded Celtic Necklace. This necklace allows you to combine the beads of your choice with a wire-wrapped Celtic design, and then you have several options to compete the necklace - simple chain mail, a wire-wrapped style of chain, or even bead stringing or bead-weaving. This is a pretty versatile and interesting design, and if time allows, students will also be able to make the matching earrings, at no additional cost (other than materials.) Class fee: $35 plus supplies.

On Sunday, February 7, (1PM) we will again be offering our basic wire-wrapped cabochon pendant class. This is an excellent class for beginning and advanced wire students alike. Class fee: $35 plus supplies.

On Sunday, February 21, (1PM) we will be offering Darlin's set - a matching bracelet, ring, and earrings set that is always a popular class. Because 3 completed projects are completed in this class, it tends to run a little longer than our other Wire classes, and its fee is $45 plus supplies, instead of the usual $35 fee.

Beadwork and Wire-Weaving:

Ceil Thomas had a busy and prosperous 2009, and has asked to take January and February off to recuperate, and she will be starting up classes again in March, with her extremely popular Chunky Beaded Cluster Necklace Class. on March 13 at 10:30 AM. Class Fee: $30 plus supplies.

Art Clay Silver:

Join us on Saturday, January 30, at 10:30 AM for Art Clay Silver Rings! Angie always has new designs and techniques to share, and this promises to be a great class. (Intro Art Clay is a required pre-requisite) Class Fee: $65 (includes all supplies.)

On Saturday, February 20, at 10:30 AM Angie will be offering a completely new class: Paper Clay. This features more of Angie's innovative techniques and ideas, and something completely new for those of you who haven't taken any Art Clay Silver Classes in awhile. (Intro Art Clay is a required pre-requisite) Class Fee: $65 (includes all supplies.)

Kumihimo:

Kathy Morris will returning February 26, to offer Kumihimo, the ancient Japanese art of braiding with beads. This will be an all-day class, from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and the project will be a rope necklace, which the student may chose to finish with a focal bead, or fringed as a lariat, or simply leave unadorned. The fee for this class is $45 plus supplies. All supplies will be available at YaYa Beads, but if you have a favorite focal bead that you have been wondering how to use, feel free to bring it! [$30 deposit required for registration.]

Cold Connections:

Kathy will again be offering her 2-day Cold Connections workshop on Saturday and Sunday, February 27 and 28 (9 Am - 6PM) . Cold Connections is a fascinating MetalWorks process, in which a variety of materials and found objects are attached without the use of glues or soldering. The creative possibilities with Cold Connections are virtually endless – limited only by your imagination.

Kathy has taught this Cold Connections workshop here before, and does not designate projects in advance - she allows each student to design their own projects, and in the past, students have left the workshop with anywhere from 4 to 8 completed projects, plus some works-in-progress they could finish at home later.

The fee for this intense 2-day workshop is $135.00, and includes ALL materials, literature, consumables, and supplies to be used in the class. [$65 deposit required for registration.] Any additional cost incurred would be for embellishment or finishing of the designs (such as crystals, beads, or perhaps chain to complete a pendant), or for the purchase of tools and/or materials that the student may wish to acquire from the instructor or YaYa Beads to continue working at home with cold connections.

Pictures of Cold Connections projects and more information about this workshop will soon be posted in the Classes section of http://www.yayabeads.com/

Keep checking back here for more updates to the Specialty Class Schedule. As always, beading, beadweaving, and wrapped loop classes are offered on a flexible schedule, during the week, according to available openings - so if you would like to take one or more of these, call early to reserve your spot!

Take note of our Holiday Closings:

A new, and hopefully winning, ticket is drawn

No one came forward with the matching ticket stub we drew on December 1, so, as promised, we drew a new ticket a few moments ago - check your stubs, and see if you have a match!

Those little Swarovski snowmen are hoping to go to a good home!

If no one claims the earrings before 5 PM on December 20, I will draw one more time from the batch of tickets collected in November.

Good luck everyone!

Don't forget to come in and look at our new beads, findings, and focals - we have some exciting new stuff, and new seed bead colors, too!

November winning ticket and other news

This is the winning ticket in our November drawing for the Swarovski Snowman earrings. If your ticket stub matches this one, bring it in and collect your prize!

**~**~**~**~**~**~**

This post has been edited 12/10/09, 5 PM: No one came forward with the above winning ticket by the deadline previously established, so a new ticket has been drawn, and will be posted in a few minutes.

If you don't have the matching stub, hang on to your tickets for a little while - if no one claims the earrings by 5 PM on Thursday, December 10, we will draw another ticket, and post that number here.

So check your tickets soon - if you have the winner, don't forget to come by the shop before 5 PM on the 10th!

We now have earwires available in 14 gorgeous colors, including brown, black, red, orange, yellow, peach, and several shades of blue and green:

These earwires are made from 22 gauge enameled copper, and will give you many more choices in earring design.

We have put together a package with one pair of each color, and are offering this multi-pack for our December stimulus drawing.

We recently received a new shipment of gemstones, and continue to receive new seed beads, findings, and glass beads every week.

Don't miss out on our upcoming classes and workshops! There are still a couple of openings in the wire-wrap Ring class this weekend: Students will leave the class with 3 completed rings -- the hidden bead ring, and 2 freeform rings of their choice.

We also still have openings in the Kumihimo workshop AND the Cold Connections workshop - we are very excited to be able to offer unusual workshops!

Call us or come by the shop to register.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Exciting New Workshops!

We have an event-filled weekend of new workshops coming up in December - you won't want to miss out on this rare opportunity!

We are offering 2 exciting new classes, in an intense, information-packed format, both taught by Kathy Morris, a visiting teacher from the William Holland Lapidary School in Young Harris, Georgia, where she has taught a variety of classes since 2003, including Beadweaving, Wire-Wrapping, and Cold Connections. Many of you have already met Kathy; she is a dynamic instructor and an endless source of beading information (ask her how seed beads are made!), and we are anxiously awaiting her upcoming visit!

On Friday, December 11, Kathy will be offering instruction in Kumihimo, the ancient Japanese art of braiding with beads.

Examples of Kumihimo - (click photos to enlarge):

On Saturday and Sunday, December 12 and 13, Kathy will be teaching Cold Connections.

The workshop is planned for all day Saturday and Sunday, from 9 AM to 6 PM both days. We will offer a short break for lunch, but we want to maximize our learning time - so feel free to bring snacks and beverages, and store them in our fridge. Past students have been too excited about the class to leave for lunch!

TOOLS NEEDED for Cold Connections: Chasing hammer, riveting hammer, steel block, metal shears, small ball peen hammer. If you have these tools, please bring them clearly marked with your name. YaYa Beads will also have the necessary tools and materials for use available at the workshop. Additionally, many tools and supplies will also be available for purchase for any interested students. SAFETY GLASSES are strongly recommended, but will not be provided – please make sure you come to class with safety glasses – you can get these at Lowe’s, Walmart, etc.

Some examples of Cold Connections pieces (click photos to enlarge):

Kathy's last Cold Connections Workshop at YaYa Beads filled up within 3 days. Class size in Cold Connections is limited to 6 students, and Kumihimo registration is limited to 8 students, so don't hesitate to register if these classes interest you!

10-27-09

Just some quick updates this morning:

We have added a calendar view to the YaYa Beads Webpage. This will let you view scheduled classes, as well as other events at the shop, and also provide a reminder about days the shop will be closed for vacation, holidays, etc.

We are experiencing a few technical difficulties with the calendar view right now that make it difficult to read the name of the entire class scheduled on a particular day, but we hope to have these bugs ironed out shortly. The good news is, you can now click on the calendar and at least see the schedule, and you can always click back to the newsletter to get full details on any classes and scheduling questions.

Whether you are ready for it or not, the holidays are fast approaching!

YaYa Beads has lots of great holiday-themed beads and ideas - including these cute Swarovski Christmas trees and snowmen -

and these ceramic beads:

If you need a quick gift, we have earrings already made up for purchase, or you can buy the beads and make them yourself.

We have new gemstones, several new seed bead colors, and these new trailer hitch clasps:

These clasps are extremely secure, and can be opened and closed with one hand, which makes them great for bracelets! They are available in 2 sizes, and in gold, silver, copper, and antique copper.

And speaking of the calendar, the shop will be closed from Tuesday, 11/3, through Saturday, 11/7, and will reopen on Tuesday, 11/10.

We will hold the drawing for the October Stimulus prize at the close of business on 10/31, and I hope to get the winning number posted here by the next day - but the winner will need to wait until we reopen to claim the bracelet.

And our November Stimulus Prize will be one pair of the Swarovski snowman earrings - don't miss your chance to enter the drawing, starting 11/10, and running through the end of November.

September Stimulus

I was playing around with some chain and some Swarovskis the other day, and ended up with this beautiful pair of sparkly, dangly earrings, and I had an idea.

During the month September, each customer who spends $25 (on qualifying purchases**) will be entered into a drawing for these earrings.

Qualifying purchases = store merchandise (beads, findings, tools, magazines, etc). Purchases which are not included are class fees, repair/labor fees, and sales tax.

This photo was taken early this morning in the natural light inside the shop - look how the sunlight catches that crystal and chain on the right - these are really bright, sparkling earrings!

Each customer who makes a $25 purchase (as outlined above) during September will be entered in the drawing, which will occur sometime during the first week of October.

The winning ticket number will be posted here, and also in the store - but keep your ticket stub, because the winner must present the stub in order to pick up the earrings!

If this stimulus idea catches on, we'll plan to do a different one every month.

More News:

We received brand new issues of 3 magazines this morning:
October '09 Bead & Button
October/November '09 Beadwork
September/October '09 Step By Step Beads

They all have some terrific projects, and you beadweavers really need to take a look at the project on the cover of Step By Step Beads - it is gorgeous!

We are running out of room for all our magazines, so back issues of these 3 publications are now 15%.

And:
We have even more gemstones, pearls, and findings in, so come take a look!

Don't forget to take a look at the latest class schedule, in the post below this one.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

September Swapapalooza!

Time for another YaYa Bead Swap!

If you're like most beaders, you have more than a few beads or findings lying around from previous projects. YaYa Beads is sponsoring our next Bead Swap on Monday, September 14, where any interested beader can trade their unused beads, clasps, seed beads, etc... with other beaders, and go home with some great new inspiration!

Many of you are familiar with the Bead Swap rules, but here they are for the newcomers:

How it works:
1) This is a bead swap: no money is to exchange hands. Your leftover beads and findings are the only accepted currency at the swap.

2) You may bring in any beads or findings you are willing to part with.

3) We will provide a space for you to display your items. You'll mark your spot with a name tag, and then you are free to walk around and check out the other items up for trade, or stay with your own beads. But don't worry - any interested trader will be able to find you!

4) Once you find some beads you'd like to swap for, you can call out the name of the owner and take your beads to them, or bring them back to your spot, and start working on your trade. Remember: no money is to exchange hands.

5) You are under no obligation to swap with anyone. Sometimes someone may want one of your beads, but you don't see anything of theirs you want - that's OK.

6) Terms of each swap are left up to the 2 trading parties.

7) All swaps are final, so make sure you really want to part with your beads before you enter into any trade.

8) YaYa Beads is proud to host this swap, but YaYa inventory is not up for trading!

One Beader's leftovers are another Beader's treasure!

Mark your calendars for this fun event: Monday, September 14, @ 6:00 PM.

Just a few reminders:

Think you'd like to learn to make a wire-wrapped focal piece like this?

The prerequisite class, Wire-coiled Earrings, is this Saturday - August 8 @ 10:30.

Give us a call, or come into the shop, and get registered! Don't miss out!

Daniel's Wire-wrapped Pendant class is also this weekend - Sunday, @1 pm. This is a terrific class for anyone interested in learning wire-wrapping basics or in expanding their skills.

Don't Miss Out!

Look at the gorgeous wire work in this necklace:

This is one of Ceil Thomas' intricate wire-coiled neckpieces, and Ceil will soon be teaching this technique as a 2-day seminar at YaYa Beads.

In order to enroll in this 2-day seminar, we are offering the following class as a mandatory pre-requisite:

Wire-Coiled Earrings: Saturday, August 8, 10:30 AM

This class will begin to teach you the techniques needed to make Ceil's beautifully detailed coiled wire centerpieces. There are still 3 openings available for this class.

Note: The wire-coiled earring class is considered an advanced wire-weaving class.

Samples of both these projects are on display at the shop. The fee for Ceil's beadwork classes is $30 plus supplies; $15 non-refundable deposit required for registration.

If you are interested, please give us a call, or come in and sign up!

YaYa News, 7/22/09

Just a few updates and additional information about the current class schedule:

This is a sample of the "Wire Coiled Earrings," which will be taught on August 8 @ 10:30 AM.

This is considered to be an advanced project/class, but if you are at all interested in taking our 2-day seminar, to be offered later this year, on making those intricate, gorgeous wire-coiled focal pieces of Ceil's, this class is a mandatory prerequisite - so check your calendars, and give us a call if you're interested!

The following are just a few of the pieces produced in previous Chunky Beaded Cluster classes:

It's easy to see that this class allows you to produce a necklace that is only limited by your imagination (and supply of beads).

The next Chunky Beaded Cluster class is scheduled for August 22 @ 10:30 AM, and there are only 2 openings left!

The Lacy Wire Cuff Bracelet class last Sunday was a huge success - everyone's bracelets looked different, and every

one had a great time.

YaYa Beads will now be offering this class on a one-on-one flexible scheduling basis, like we do with our beadweaving and basic beading classes, so give us a call if you're interested in learning this fun bracelet.

NOTE: Intro Art Clay Silver, on Saturday, August 15, is now completely full.

I will be happy to start a waiting list for anyone interested in having us schedule another Intro Art Clay class.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
