February and March Wire Classes Now Scheduled

We are back from the Holidays with new wire class dates for March:

Sunday, March 6, 1PM: Wire-wrapping, Basic Cabochon Pendant

Wire-wrapped cabochons
This is our most basic wire-wrapping class: lots of instruction in types of wire, various tools, plus students will learn to wire wrap a cabochon, leaving class with a beautiful pendant.

Class fee: $45 plus supplies; $25 deposit required for registration.

 Sunday, March 20, 1PM: Wire-wrapping, Geometric Bracelet

Wire-wrapped Geometric Bracelet

This is another good beginner-level wire class, with a lot of instruction about wire types and basic wire-wrapping skills, plus you'll leave class with a beautiful bracelet!

Class fee: $45 plus supplies; $25 deposit required for registration.

Just a reminder about our wire classes: Daniel travels a long way to teach these classes, so a minimum of 2 students must register for any class in order to justify Daniel's travel time and expenses. In the event that we fail to have enough students register for a particular class, any registration fees collected for that class will be refunded in full.

Also, Daniel offers private classes here at YaYa Beads, for those who want a little more individual attention and don't want to worry about whether enough students will sign up for our group classes. These private classes cost $90 (supplies are extra), and must be paid IN FULL at the time of registration. The student determines which projects will be taught. Depending of the projects chosen, Daniel covers anywhere from 2 to 4 projects in this class (the student will leave the session with a finished project for each lesson). The number of projects varies because some pieces are quicker than others, so more projects can be mastered during class time. Private classes are offered on Sundays (sometimes on Saturdays, depending on Daniel's availability), usually from 10AM to 5PM.

We appreciate your business, and hope to see you soon!

Gearing up for Summer Classes

Summer's right around the corner, and we have a full schedule of classes on tap, starting next month.

Have you worked with Tila beads yet? These flat, double-drilled seed beads are versatile, and so much fun! We have a nice selection of colors, and on Friday, June 22 will be offering a beadweaving class, teaching how to make Tila flowers, flat floral components that look great as earrings, or can be linked together to make bracelets and necklaces:

Tila flower earrings:

Tila Flower bracelet:

This design uses a combination of peyote and herringbone stitches. Class will start at 10:30 AM, end at 4 PM. Once the flower itself is mastered, the class will concentrate on making more flowers, and then converting them into the desired design (earrings and/or bracelet and/or necklace). Students who master the flower component and feel comfortable assembling the earrings and bracelet on their own need not stay until the end of class! Fee: $35.00 plus supplies (we will be using FireLine, for those wishing to bring their own from home); $15.00 deposit required at registration.

Sunday, July 15, 1PM: Wire-wrapped Rings

This class will focus on the hidden beads ring (upper pic) - a ring which looks different depending on the size and shape of the bead you choose to wrap (If you have a favorite ring set aside at home, and you'd like to use it, bring it to class!). This class builds on the skills learned in the basic pendant class, but beginners will have no problems mastering this technique.

Once all the students have finished their hidden bead ring, Daniel will teach a bonus class - the bird's nest ring (lower pic). This is a fun, easy, and quick way to showcase a favorite bead, and a technique you'll enjoy recreating over and over - this ring makes a great gift, too!

Class fee: $35 plus supplies, $15 deposit required for registration.

Sunday, July 29, 1PM: Wire-wrapped Geometric Bracelet
This is a classic favorite here at YaYa Beads, and elegant wire design that looks great with every outfit! This is a wonderful beginner class, as the basic information about wire and tools is covered thoroughly before students move on to working with the wire.

Class fee: $35 plus supplies, $15 deposit required for registration.

Sunday, August 12, 1PM: Wire-wrapping, Basic Cabochon Pendant - see class description for June 24, (above).

Sunday, August 26, 1PM: Wire-wrapping, Project To Be Announced - we will be scheduling this class later this summer, based on customer requests received at the shop. If there is a particular class you have been wanting to take, now is your chance to see it on the schedule - come see us, and let us know what you'd be interested in taking!

Let us know if you are interested in a resin or cold connections class, or maybe even another type of class, and we'll see what we can do to add it to the schedule!

Hope to see you soon!

New Class & Schedule Information

AUGUST:
Wire-Wrapped Rings
: Sunday, August 8, 1PM

The class project is the Pharoah's ring (scroll down to the Hidden Bead Ring Picture - this is very similar to Pharoah's ring; then imagine it with a big shiny faceted Swarovski Rivoli!), with a Swarovski Rivoli crystal as the focal bead - this is a blingy project!

The class project will look very similar to the ring shown here at the right - except that this is a 4-prong setting with a Swarovski Rivoli crystal. Prong settings are difficult for beginners, so Daniel has modified this ring to teach it as a Pharoah's ring, with the same Swarovski Rivoli, so it is easier, but just as stunning.

Beaded Beads: Saturday, August 14, 10:30 AM. Ceil has added a few more beaded beads to her repertoire (and we will soon be added these pictures to the Shop's webpage), and will be teaching 2-3 different types, time permitting. Students who pick up the techniques faster than others will be able to progress a little more rapidly in this class, and will be the ones who may be able to learn the 3rd pattern. Ceil is easily able to adapt to different student's stitching skills and speeds, and everyone will get the one-on-one attention they need.

Samples of all the different beaded bead types available to be taught in this class are on display at the shop. Students should be prepared by 10:30 on the morning of class to tell Ceil what their 1st, 2nd, and possible 3rd choices are for the class - (everyone may have different choices - Ceil is very flexible!) But the class starts at 10:30, so if you want to examine the different beads designs and start picking out your beads, either come in one day before the class to start making your choices, or get to the shop well before 10:30 that morning, so you can do your picking and choosing! Please don't expect the class or the teacher to wait for you once class begins!

Introduction to Art Clay Silver: Saturday, August 21, 10:30 AM (this will be the LAST opportunity to take Intro Art Clay Silver until next year - Angela will be building on these skills in some of her more advanced classes for the rest of the year). No kidding folks - last intro class this year. Angie has some terrific advanced classes to offer, and we are moving on!

SEPTEMBER:
Photopolymer Clay
: Saturday, September 11, 10:30 AM. One of Angela's Advanced Art Clay classes, this class will teach you how to make your own stamps. We don't have this project on the YaYa Beads page - Angie hasn't taught it in over 3 years, but everyone loved it the last time she offered it. We also don't have an example in the shop right now, but Angie promises me she will get me one ASAP. But basically, you learn how to design and make your own stamps that you can use on Art Clay projects or in Cold Connections - or I guess even for plain old stamping on paper!

Wire-Wrapped Beaded Bangle Bracelet ("Maggie's Bracelet"): Sunday, September 12, 1PM. This bracelet combines traditional wire-wrapping techniques with beads - and you can use a wide choice of bead sizes and shapes, so be prepared to arrive early for class, so that you can make your selection!

Just 2 of the many variations on Maggie's beaded bangle - one with 4mm copper round beads, one with hand-woven peyote beads.

SEE* Pendant & Earrings: Friday, September 17, 10:30 AM - 6PM. SEE stands for Soldered, Epoxied, and Embossed. The SEE pendant/earring technique combines Soldering, Epoxying, and Embossing to create a uniquely individualized design - your finished product will be the result of the various materials you choose to add to your design, which may include glitter, different colors of embossing powder, pieces of metal, and whatever else Kathy has up her sleeve. Plus you choose the shape your pendant and earrings take - and the pendant and earrings certainly don't have to match. And if you don't want earrings, Kathy will let you make 2 pendants instead, because THAT is exactly how flexible she is!!

Cold Connections: Saturday & Sunday, Sept. 18-19, 9 AM - 6 PM (2-day workshop)

Viking Knit: Monday, September 20, 10:30 AM - 5 PM - this is wire-weaving class, taught by Kathy Morris. There are many, many applications for this technique, but the class project will be a copper bracelet, and you will also learn to make you own starter, so that you can continue to make more Viking Knit once you leave class!

Wire-Wrapped Celtic Necklace AND Celtic Earrings: Sunday, September 26, 1PM

These are 2 different projects, and 2 different techniques - and, obviously, they don't match - but both are Celtic.

OK - that is it for formal class schedule updates at this time. Please call the shop to register, or if you have any questions!

On a related class note, many of you have been asking about beading classes, wrapped loop classes, beadweaving classes, and chainmaille classes. I had hoped to get restarted with these in August, but I still can't talk, so I certainly can't teach yet. I have an appointment in late August to see an ENT about this unusual complication from my cervical disc surgery, and hope to be able to start talking by September, but I truly do not know what my prognosis is at this time. But YaYa beads is just not able to resume beading, beadweaving, or chainmaille classes until the teacher can talk, so please bear with us. Thanks!

Now - I'd like to remind everyone that our "Just Bead It" Studio Project Days start Wednesday, August 4 - we'd love to have you join us!

And don't forget that YaYa Beads is on Facebook - we'd love to have you join us there - get all the very latest updates! Just go to our page, and click "Like"! It's easy!

Hope to see you soon!

Update to class schedule

New class schedule:

Wire-Wrapping:

Cabochon Pendant: Sunday, June 27, 1 PM
Class fee: $35 plus supplies

All the fundamentals of wire-wrapping are taught in this class, so it is a great class for beginners, and for those who want to add to their wire-wrapping knowledge. Plus you leave the class with a beautiful wrapped pendant!

Art Clay Silver:

Silver Paste: Saturday, April 17, 10:30 AM
Class fee: $65 (includes all supplies)

Students will make a pendant, component, or earrings using an organic object such as a leaf to provide the basic shape. Bring your own leaf or flower, or use one provided by the instructor.

example of Art Clay Silver Paste on Gingko leaf

Beadwork & Wire-Weaving:

Bead Embroidery: Saturday, June 5 AND Saturday, June 19, 10:30 AM
Workshop fee: $80 plus supplies

This is a brand new class for YaYa Beads! Students will make a beaded cuff, similar to those shown below, in this 2-day workshop. On day 1, students will learn the fundamentals of bead embroidery, and begin their project. In the 2 weeks between class dates, students will be expected to work on their cuff, so they are prepared to learn how to finish the bracelet on the second class date.

Cold Connections: Friday & Saturday, June 18-19, 9 AM - 6 PM
Workshop fee: $135 (includes all supplies)

Kathy Morris returns to YaYa Beads from the William Holland Lapidary School to teach students how to make pendants, earrings, bracelets, and all sorts of jewelry components from copper and brass sheet. This 2-day workshop has become one of our most popular classes!

Enameling on Copper: Sunday & Monday: June 20-21, 9 AM - 6 PM
Workshop fee: $115 (includes all supplies except where noted below)
Expand on your metal-working skills in this brand new 2-day workshop. Kathy Morris will be teaching students to add color to their copper components with enamel, which is powdered glass that must be fused to the metal in a kiln.

Students may bring completed copper pieces to enamel in the class, or may make the copper components in the class (or both; however, copper-working will NOT be taught in this class, so prior knowledge of cold connections techniques is mandatory for this enameling workshop!) Students who bring their own previously-created copper pieces to the class will leave the workshop with more finished pieces, but there will be plenty of time during the workshop to design and create the copper pieces you wish to enamel.

An example of an enameled copper bracelet, with matching earrings, is shown below.

A full class description for the enameling workshop is being developed, and we will post it here as soon as it is available. Students should be aware that the class fee will include all enameling supplies but will NOT include any copper that students use to design and create components. Copper will be available for purchase at the time of the class, or you may bring your own.

Remember to visit us during Master's Week - some reminders about easy access to the shop during the week of Master's are provided at the end of the post immediately below this one.

Clip this coupon and bring it to the shop during Master's for additional savings!

These Snowmen need a good home

No one has ever stepped forward to claim the poor Swarovski snowman earrings that were our November stimulus giveaway - so here's the deal: the first person to walk into the store after I post this newsletter, with any ticket at all for a November purchase (one of the red entry tickets - not a receipt, just to clarify), and to tell me they read about these poor homeless snowmen, gets to take them home. Bye-Bye, snowmen!
